Interface AES42
Le SuperCMIT 2 U est un microphone numérique. Sa sortie est au format AES 42, mode 1. Cela signifie qu'il fonctionne sur sa propre horloge (48 kHz) et qu'il doit être branché sur une entrée AES42 avec convertisseur de fréquence d'échantillonnage (SRC). Grâce au boîtier d'alimentation optionnel PSD 2U, on peut aussi le brancher sur une entrée AES3 standard avec SRC.
La norme AES42 définit l'interface pour les microphones numériques. Dans le cas le plus simple, l'AES42 ne demande qu'une entrée AES3 et une alimentation phantom numérique 10 Volts (DPP). Les interfaces AES42 sont disponibles sur certains équipements comme l'interface 8 canaux RME DMC-842 et l'enregistreur portable 8 pistes Sound Device 788T.

Options for connecting the SuperCMIT 2 U

If you want to use the SuperCMIT properly in a normal workflow, you have to care for:

  • digital phantom power (DPP, 10 Volts)
  • a digital input with sample rate converter (SRC)
  • sufficient gain of the digital input for instantly making recordings and for monitoring, peak limiter

The following list comprises some currently available devices and depicts their properties with regard to the above-mentioned
demands.

    • this device needs to be connected to an AES3 input with sample rate converter (SRC)

  • 2. SCHOEPS Mini-DA42
    • miniature D/A converter with 10 Volt digital phantom powering (DPP)
    • input: AES42
    • outputs: AES3 (XLR-3M), 2 × analog (balanced, XLR-3M)
    • a Sub-D breakout cable is included
    • an AC adapter for 100 - 240 V, 50 / 60 Hz with HIROSE plug is included

  • 3. SoundDevices
    a) 788T
    • the AES42 inputs are available only through a separate breakout cable available from Sound Devices
    • with built-in DPP and SRC (= it has an AES42/mode 1 interface)
    • with sufficient gain (+50 dB) in the digital input
    • peak limiter and low-cut available

  • b) other products from SoundDevices
    • no DPP, need a powering device like the SCHOEPS PSD 2U
    • no SRC in the digital input, the digital microphone has to be the master clock!
    • no digital gain available, +30 dB gain option in the SuperCMIT should be used

  • 4. ZAXCOM DEVA
    • has no DPP, needs a powering device like the SCHOEPS PSD 2U
    • all newer Zaxcom devices have SRC in the digital inputs
    • offers digital input gain:MENU > Input configure > "Analog input toggle" > choose the "digital input" > digital fader max. 30 dB gain
    • a compressor / limiter can be inserted in the digital inputs

  • 5. AATON Cantar
    • with SRC in the digital input
    • no gain adjustment in the digital inputs
    • until now: no DPP

  • 6. AETA 4MinX
    • 2 × AES42/Mode-1 inputs with SRC
    • Digital Gain +20dB, Limiter, LowCut

  • 7. TASCAM HS-P82
    • 8 AES/EBU inputs with SRC
    • has no DPP, needs a powering device like the SCHOEPS PSD 2U
    • no gain adjustment in the digital inputs available, +30 dB gain option in the SuperCMIT should be used
    • peak limiter and low-cut available

  • 8. RME DMC-842
    • 8 × AES42 input with SRC, DPP and gain
    • 8 × analog output (XLR)
    • 4 × AES3 output (AES/EBU), 2 × ADAT output
    • For operation with SCHOEPS digital microphones, the control pulses (CP) and sync pulses (SP) have to be turned off in the setup menu of the DMC-842 - otherwise the signal-to-noise ratio may decrease. The easiest way is to activate 'Auto CP/SP' and 'Auto SRC' in the setup of the remote software.

    • 1 × AES42 input
    • 1 × AES3 output (AES/EBU)
    • 2 × analog output
    • gain adjustable from 0 dB to 48 dB in steps of 6 dB
    • headphone monitoring options: L/L, L/R, R/R

  • 10. Neumann
    a) Neumann Connection Kit
    • powering box for 10 Volt digital phantom powering (DPP) with XLR output
    • input: AES42, output: AES3 (AES/EBU)
    • this device needs to be connected to an AES3 input with sample rate converter (SRC)

  • b) Neumann DMI-2
    • 2 × AES42 input
    • 2 × AES3 output (AES/EBU)
    • this device needs to be connected to an AES3 input with sample rate converter (SRC)

  • c) Neumann DMI-8
    • no mode-1 support
    • does neither work with the SCHOEPS SuperCMIT nor with the CMD 2!

  • 11.Zaxcom TRX942
    • digital recording transceiver for boom (the launch has been announced for November 2010)
    • custom-made AES42 input for the SuperCMIT
    • transmission of one output channel only (can be selected)

  • 12.Audioroot eSMART 42-DH
    • battery-powered box for 10 Volt digital phantom powering (DPP)
    • input: AES42, output: AES 3
    • 2 additional HRS power outputs for mixer / recorder supply
